As a consumer, I have to admit I love getting a really great deal.  Well folks, the cost of OEM inks for most consumer ink jet printers is more costly than most consumables...just take a look at the attached chart from Gizmodo.com.  The ink listed is HP Black Ink.

 


 

 

The good news is that there are some great solutions around this profitable rip off.  Profitability invites competition...leading to competitive challenges.  There are some very clever solutions to avoiding the high costs of fine printing.

Years ago, I was trained formally by some wonderful darkroom printers including the legendary Imogen Cunningham.  I used to pride myself on my wet darkroom printing skills.  But with the advent of digital printers, I wisely decided to sell my enlarger and move entirely to digital printing.  This short post will cover the reasons why I made this decision and will suggest some articles to follow regarding the materials and techniques available to the devoted digital printer.
